West Jefferson Backstreet Downtown

The Ashe County Farmers Market opened up on May 7th for the season and will run until October. Each Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm, the Backstreet in West Jefferson’s Downtown area fills with fresh grown veggies and other great products and crafts.  In July, the Market begins opening up on Wednesdays as well from 8 am to 1 pm.

In June, Backstreet West Jefferson begins featuring a Summer Concert each Friday evening from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. June 3rd, the Backstreet features West Jefferson Community Partnership Presents: Wayne Henderson, Helen White and Herb Key. On June 17th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Kelley and the Cowboys will hit the Backstreet.

The 35th Annual New River Canoe Race At Zaloo’s Canoes

The race begins at Zaloo’s canoes and is a fun family outing for all. The race leads down the New River 5 miles to the Wagoner Road access at New River State Park. You can enter a canoe or kayak and rest assured, this section of the river includes no whitewater at all. The event lasts from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and you don’t have to enter a watercraft to enjoy the festivities.

Ashe Arts Center

On May 28th at 7:30 om the center will host an evening of poetry, short stories and prose by local writers. This is a great free community event and refreshments will be available.

Ashe Civic Center

On Saturday, June 4th at 7:30 pm the Ashe Civic Center features Ang Li in Concert. Ang Li has performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia, and she has appeared at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York, National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Ruïnekerk of Bergen in the Netherlands, Hong Kong City Hall, and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing.

1st Annual Lansing Blues Festival

June 18th from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm Lansing will host the first ever Lansing Blues Festival at the Lansing Creeper Trail Park. The event will host top International Blues performers and will feature a Big Tent be set up on Big Horse Creek’s Heritage Trout Waters. Come out and enjoy the blues – rain or shine! Food and other vendors will be on hand. Admission is just $10
