Ashe County on the New River
Ashe County offers a little something for every walk of life. The New River brings thousands to the town every year. July 31st, 1998 President Bill Clinton came to Ashe County with Vice President Al Gore to declare the New River an American Heritage River. Ashe County offers several options for you and your family to be able to enjoy the river’s beauty. Ming the river home during the summer months has been one of the local resident’s favorite past times. The locals have their favorite spots to camp and go tubing down the peaceful river. Other great outdoor activities to enjoy while the weather is nice and warm are river fishing, kayaking, tubing, swimming or hiking. Ashe County created a group of locals who go through and clean up any litter on the river so it stays well taken care of and is beautiful for all to enjoy.
