Spring Fest is here again – and this is the 30th year of celebrating art for Ashe County’s young people! The festive event is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Early Learning Center in West Jefferson. The Ashe County Arts Council is the sponsor, and the theme this year is: Just Fly … Love the Arts! Hands-on art activities will allow the children and youth the opportunity to create works of art and to use their imaginations in participating in over three dozen art projects including painting, clay, sculpture, weaving, printmaking, silk screening, basketry, quilting, face painting, jewelry making, and many other craft activities.

Most activities are free, and exhibits from all Ashe County Schools, Home Education students, and Daycare Centers will highlight student artwork. Local artists will provide demonstrations in a variety of art forms.

Roving entertainment will be offered throughout the day by Chaz the Magician, the Balloon Lady, and the Interactive Theatre of Jef. The stage will be filled with the talents of Ashe County’s young people with student performers and the dancing feet from April’s School of Dance, Fleet Feet Cloggers, and Dancin’ Debbie’s. Pizza, subs, nachos, cookies, and drinks will be available for hungry folks in the lobby.

Spring Fest is funded in part by a Grassroots Arts Program Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, and is sponsored by the Ashe County Arts Council. Spring Fest 2016 promises a fun day of celebrating the arts. It will entertain you and open your eyes with new experiences in the arts. We look forward to seeing you there on April 16 for a magical day of art!
